The travelers require prior permission to the visit Nathula. You can give your photo and a photocopy of your identity proof to hotel manager. They will arrange the permit. Share jeep is available from Gangtok (rs. 260 - 300). However, you can also hire a jeep. The rate may vary from season to season. You may face altitude sickness because you have ride 14450 ft from 4715 ft with in 56 KM. It’s an one day trip starting from Gangtok and back. One can visit Babamandir, Changu (Tsongmo) Lake along with Nathula trip.
Babamandir (Baba Harabhajan Singh Memorial) is situated at the altitude of 13000 ft and about 42 KM from Gangtok. This is a memorial of Harabhajan Singh who was a brave Indian soldier, died near the Nathula Pass during Indo-China war.
Changu Lake (Tsongmo Lake) is situated at the altitude of 12400 ft on Gangtok-Nathula highway. It is a glacial lake situated in the East Sikkim. The Lake remains frozen during winter. The distance from Gangtok is around 40 KM. One can take Yak ride there.
